Poor growing conditions are limiting the amount of pumpkins that grow. The harvest in 2015 is about half of what it has been in previous years. The amount of rain received in places like Illinois caused a decline in the amount of pumpkins that usually grow. Over the years Illinois has received a 10% increase in the amount of rain. This amount of rainfall could also be because of an El Nino that occurred earlier. The wet conditions not only decrease the amount of pumpkins that grow but it makes the environment ideal for diseases that can harm the pumpkin population. Pumpkins do really well in warmer and really dry areas during the summer. The last time they had a harvest that was this bad was in 2009 where rainfall was high enough that tractors would sink in the mud.
I think that climate change is really getting out of control since it is now affecting things as simple as pumpkins. Who would of thought that we would have much less pumpkins this year because of the changes in the climate. I think they should of grown more pumpkins here since we had a hot dry summer and that just what pumpkins like. Since this is something that can't be predicted exactly and can't be helped, i think companies should be more aware and ready for things like these.
