Fisherman are continuously catching the bigger fish since they are worth more. However killing the biggest fish of that species, especially if it's a female, might affect the population numbers. The bigger the female fish is the more babies it can have which helps increase the population. The bigger the female is the more eggs it can hold. Big females also make bigger babies which can help continue to grow over a couple of years. Researchers have shown that our selective thinking when it comes to fishing actually changes the genetic structure of a population.
I think that fishermen should be more conscience of what they are doing to the fish population. They should worry more about what's going to be left for the future rather than what they can receive at the moment. If the begin to fish more for the smaller fish and let the bigger ones reproduce, soon there will be a higher amount of just large fish benefiting everyone. I agree with the article because I do think that we should be paying more respect to these big mama types of fish since they help so much with their population.
